About this Blog

While there is no set agenda for this blog, I’m guessing it will follow some of the passions in my life.  After all, they say write about what you know and care about.  So what does that mean for Bruce Bradley?  Well, here’s what tops my list right now:

Food:

I’ve always loved food, and it’s been a big part of my life.  After learning how to be a pretty good cook, I thought, how cool would it be to work with food everyday.  So for most of my adult life, I’ve been working in the food industry in one form or fashion.  It’s this experience that lead me to write my book, FAT PROFITS.  Now while FAT PROFITS tells the story about a corrupt food company, I can honestly say that company does not exist.  That said, I’ve seen some disturbing trends in the food industry over the past 20 years, and I’m passionate about trying to improve the quality of the food we eat.  After all, if the old adage “you are what you eat” is true, these days we can’t even pronounce each other’s name.  If that doesn’t make sense to you, start reading some ingredient labels.  I guarantee if you’re eating like most Americans, they read more like a lab experiment than something that’s truly good for you.  Please, do yourself a favor and check your labels out.

Family:

Well if you hadn’t guessed it already, family is very important to me.  I don’t have a very big family, but we are all pretty close.  I think going through my divorce made me realize who really had my back, and my family was on the top of that list and really helped me survive a very difficult time in my life.

My son, Ben, is “the bomb.”  He will probably cringe when he reads this for a couple reasons.  First, he’s a teenager and everything your parent says is embarrassing when you’re a teen.  Second, parents tend to be at least a couple years behind on the slang, so I’m sure “the bomb” comment is well out of style by now.  Too bad Ben!  There’s no shutting Dad up on his blog.  I’ll keep it short for now, but Ben is a great young man, and my life is much richer for being his dad.

The rest of the family you’ll have to meet later.  I always have lots of stories to share — both old and new.

Writing:

I’ve always wanted to write a novel.  I’ve probably tried to get started at least a dozen times.  But for a variety of reasons, the idea didn’t finally take until recently.  Maybe it was part of a mid-life crisis.  Maybe it was about proving to myself I could do it.  All I know is that when I started to share my dream with my family, I finally got serious about my writing.  I’ll save the details for one a blog post along the way, but needless to say, while finding the motivation to write is ultimately up to only you, surrounding yourself with encouraging souls really matters, and my family was a big part of that for me.  Hopefully my blog can help provide you some encouragement and tips along the way because at the end of the day, writing can be a very lonely sport.

Politics and the Press:

I honestly was never into politics.  But after watching how our political debate has become so partisan and irresponsible, it’s impossible to ignore it any longer.  Something must be done.  Too many people have fought too hard to watch a bunch of egotistical bureaucrats and special interest groups flush our great country down the proverbial toilet.  And don’t even get me started with the press.  While there have always been scurrilous news sources, the journalistic integrity of our mainstream media is reaching new lows.  More concerned about ratings and profits than quality reporting, the news industry needs to re-invent itself before it falls completely into the abyss of yellow journalism.

Animals:

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for animals.  From pets to wildlife, our world is a better place for all the species that co-habitate planet Earth with us.  We need to do more to protect animals though.  All animals deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.  And while I hope to share the funny, bright side of what animals bring to our lives, I will also highlight some of the atrocities that need to be righted.  Fair is fair, don’t ya’ think?
